The Contra Costa Children’s Chorus is pleased to announce that Andrew Brown, a leading Kodály based Choral and Instrumental Conductor, has been appointed as its new Artistic Director. His conducting credits include ten years as a conductor and musicianship teacher with the Pacific Boychoir Academy and Conductor of the Da Capo Youth Orchestra at Holy Names University. He recently completed his fifth year as the Concert Choir Director of the Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir where he developed a regionally recognized curriculum for advanced musicianship training.

Professionally trained as a clarinetist, he began his career in high school playing with the Tulare County Symphony, a local professional orchestra. Brown holds a Bachelor of Music, La Sierra University, and a Master of Music, Holy Names University. Focusing his early career on orchestral conducting he attended the Conductors Institute, and earned an Artists Diploma in Instrumental Conducting at the Hartt Conservatory in Connecticut.

After returning to California in 1996, Brown fell in love with the experience of working with youth choirs and turned his career in that direction. Brown’s choirs have performed with Northern California’s leading musical organizations including the San Francisco Symphony, Oakland East Bay Symphony, San Francisco Choral Society, Santa Clara Chorale, San Francisco Bach Choir and UC Davis Symphony. He has toured dozens of times nationally and internationally.
