Paul Schaefer, MD

Dr. Paul Schaefer graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in political-economy from Tulane University, where he also studied piano and trombone. He then completed a bachelor's degree in piano performance at the University of Wisconsin--Platteville before moving to the Twin Cities to earn a masters in music in choral conducting at the University of Minnesota. He worked for three years at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls as an adjunct choral director and voice teacher. During this time he sang with the Minnesota Chorale and Minnesota Opera Chorus. Paul returned to the University of Minnesota and enrolled in the Medical School, graduating in 2009. He began a residency in Family Medicine through the U of M, which will be completed in June of 2012. Resigned to the fact that he could not escape Minnesota even if he wanted to, he has been accepted into the University's one-year fellowship in primary care sports medicine. Paul is married to Elizabeth Schaefer, whom he met at the School of Music. He and his wife have three children who are forced by their unreasonable parents to sing and listen to classical music.
