Scott Tucker

Scott Tucker serves as artistic director of The Choral Arts Society of Washington. He is a musician, composer, and teacher whose passions range from symphonic works to world music to new music. Previous to his time with Choral Arts, he was the P. E. Browning Director of Choral Music at Cornell University, where he directed the Men’s Glee Club and the Women’s Chorus, in addition to overseeing the activities of the Cornell Chorale, Chamber Singers, and Sage Chapel Choir. During his 17-year leadership, the Cornell choirs toured nationally and internationally and performed frequently with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. As a guest conductor, Tucker has taken the podium for the New York State Baroque, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, the Cornell Chamber Orchestra, the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, and Ensemble X, as well as choral festivals throughout the country. Deeply committed to supporting new music, Tucker commissioned more than 30 works during his time at Cornell.

Tucker is an active member of the International Federation of Choral Music. He remains an active clinician in such areas as male singing, new repertoire for women’s choirs, and traditional African music. Previously, Tucker was an assistant conductor at Harvard University and a music teacher at Milton Academy in Boston. An award-winning musician in the Boston area, he was a tenor soloist at King’s Chapel. 

Tucker received a master’s of music degree in choral conducting from the New England Conservatory of Music, a bachelor’s of music degree in trumpet performance from the New England Conservatory, and a bachelor’s of science degree from Tufts University where he was a Presser Scholar.
