Spring Concert: The Passion According to Saint John

Spring Concert: The Passion According to Saint John

2344 Center St, Bethlehem, PA 18017

Bach Choir of B... | Adults/Seniors, Audiences, Children/Youth, Conducting, Families, Performance, Singing, Symphonic

General Admission: $37, Students $9 Spring Concert Soloists: Thomas Cooley, tenor (Evangelist) William Sharp, baritone (Jesus) Laura Heimes, soprano Laura Atkinson, mezzo-soprano - winner of the 2011 Young American Singer Competition Isaiah Bell, tenor Dashon Burton, bass-baritone Don't miss this opportunity to begin the journey of Holy Week with a Palm Sunday performance of the Saint John Passion. This miraculous work had its first American performance in Bethlehem in 1888. The Bach Choir recorded the work in 2011 and is always happy to further explore Bach's musical genius as he takes us to the poetic heart of the Gospel narrative as told by Saint John. The choir portrays the tragic frenzy of the characters in the eye-witness account, as well as reflecting on the meaning that unfolds in a matchless sequence of chorales beginning with "O great love, o love beyond measure." "A handsome account of Bach's St. John Passion on this new release confirms that the Bach Choir of Bethlehem doesn't rest on anything resembling laurels." Gramophone 2012 Read more
