The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) could be the law that puts music back in all classrooms. ESSA replaces No Child Left Behind, the current version of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. In terms of emphasis on requirements, it might not be that different than No Child Left Behind, but as for philosophy on reform, it is radically different, according to Lynn M. Tuttle, Director of Content and Policy at the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Read more

The Mostly Modern Festival (MMF) Institute is the educational component of the Mostly Modern Festival, offering a combination of intensive one-on-one instruction and professional performance experience. The institute has over 100 students & over 20 faculty members. There will be an orchestra, a choir, 4 chamber ensembles, masterclasses, lectures, and private lessons. The Institute is open to musicians 18 and older, and welcomes people in all stages of their career.  MMF takes place at Skidmore College at the Arthur Zankel Music Center. Skidmore College is ideally located in Saratoga Springs, New York, three hours by car from NYC, Boston, Philadelphia and Montreal. All public performances take place at the stunning Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall, a 600-seat acoustically tuned space. The Chesapeake Children’s Chorus is founded with a vision of uniting Southern Maryland youth through singing. Operating as the children’s branch of the local adult choir St. Maries Musica, CCC is an auditioned vocal ensemble that meets weekly to provide musically-interested students in grades 2-8 with a unique choral education. Founder Krystal McCoy, and Director Carl Ellinwood have advanced degrees in music and work diligently alongside manager Tina Dronenburg to bring music education to the youth in our Tri-County area for a minimal fee. The chorus will have the opportunity to perform holiday and spring concerts, as well as take their music to Southern Maryland community stages and festivals. Read more
