Working with Multicultural Choirs: Reflections after 25 Years

Kelsey Menehan | Audiences, Community Outreach, Diversity, Management/Leadership, Marketing/Public Relations, Operations, Participation, Profile, Repertoire

As a graduate conducting student at Temple University in the 1980s, Diana V. Saez recalls being frustrated that there was no mention of Latin American composers—except for the famous composers Villalobos from Brazil and Ginastera from Argentina. When she moved to Washington DC, in 1990, she found a bustling choral music scene, with a wide variety of choruses. But Latin American music was not part of the standard repertoire. Read more

Camerata d'Amici Welcomes New Singers for 2016-2017 Season

Redding, CT

JeannieH22 | Participation, Performance, Recruitment, Singing

Camerata d’Amici is a 35-member auditioned choral ensemble, drawn from towns in Fairfield and Westchester counties. It also includes a chamber choir of twelve members. Camerata performs three concerts per season, in December, February, and May, as well as outreach concerts at local retirement communities. The diversity of our repertoire is one of the things that makes Camerata d’Amici unique. The music we sing is exceptionally broad and varied, representing the voices of different eras, cultures and peoples. We aspire through this repertoire to connect with the hearts of our audience, to channel the art of the composer and poet, to communicate what it means to be human. As Beethoven wrote on the title page of his Missa Solemnis: “From the heart – may it return to the heart.” Read more
