The Implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act

The Implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act

What practical changes can music educators expect to see?

Debbie Galante Block | Children/Youth, Education, Government/Policy, Schools

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) could be the law that puts music back in all classrooms. ESSA replaces No Child Left Behind, the current version of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Celebrate America

1730 10th Ave NW, Issaquah, WA

Master Chorus E... | Adults/Seniors, Children/Youth, Families, General, History, Performance, Singing

Master Chorus Eastside’s popular Celebrate America concert returns once again to Issaquah’s Pickering Barn in two performances to commemorate the 4th of July.  American music of all styles, from early Americana to folk tunes to spirituals and more stand side-by-side with Dr. Linda Gingrich’s signature commentary to create an unforgettable Independence Celebration on June 24th.  This year’s theme is The American Melting Pot, and the songs, stories and sing alongs that always play such a vital role in this concert will examine the immigrant experience and the many threads that have intertwined to create our American culture.  MCE is delighted to welcome The Bottom Line Duo as our special guests, a cello/string bass (and sometimes ukulele) husband-and-wife team who will blow you away with their incredible talent and witty sense of humor.   Read more

Con•tra•dic•tion – A choral fusion experience

Pittsburgh, PA

BriGuySinger | Adults/Seniors, Audiences, Children/Youth, Community Outreach, Conducting, Families, Innovation, Performance, Repertoire, Singing, Symphonic

The Bach Choir of Pittsburgh will close its season of Con·ver·gence with a fascinating exploration of new and old music.  The choral works featured in this concert are mostly well-known and will be presented basically “as written”.  The twist conceived by Artistic Director Thomas Douglas is that the accompaniment will include a five-piece jazz / rock / fusion band, along with stringed instruments!  The purpose is to show how all music springs from the same roots, but can be interpreted in a variety of styles and using different instrumentation. Composers featured in the concerts include: Antonio Vivaldi; W. A. Mozart; G. F. Händel, Johann Pachelbel, J. S. Bach, M. Jagger & K. Richards, Gabriel Faure and Franz Josef Haydn.   Read more
