Be part of creating new choral repertoire AND support Chorus America!
Every year, Chorus America presents two commission consortium opportunities to choruses—one for SATB choruses and one for children's & youth choruses. These consortiums bring together choruses of all sizes to be a part of commissioning a new work from a well-loved composer and premiering the work in their community for a fraction of what it would cost a single chorus to commission such a piece. All proceeds from the commissioning fees go to support the core programs and services of Chorus America.
We are thrilled to announce that the Grammy-winning Craig Hella Johnson and acclaimed children's and youth composer and conductor Tom Shelton will donate commissions for this year’s consortium.
Craig Hella Johnson Commission Consortium
Composer Craig Hella Johnson will compose a 5 minute piece for SATB choir with piano accompaniment, based on a text of his choosing. The cost to participate is $1,500 per chorus.
Details: Participating choruses will receive the completed piece in October 2018 via PDF. They can premiere the work in their communities until May 31, 2019, at which time the piece will be available for sale to the public. Participating ensembles will share the commissions (and printed dedications) equally. Participation must be confirmed and payment processed prior to August 18, 2017. Click HERE to register now.
Tom Shelton Commission Consortium
Composer Tom Shelton will compose a 3-4 minute piece for three part treble choir (children's and youth) with piano and C instrument accompaniment. Tom has invited all choruses who agree to participate through their financial commitment to Chorus America to submit text that he will assemble into the lyrics for the combined work. The cost to participants is $500 per chorus.
Details: Choruses may submit original poetry by singers or phrases that meet the criteria. The submitted text should focus on the value of music, the value of singing, how participating in a choir benefits the singer personally. All text submissions should be emailed to Robyn Lana (email@example.com) in the form of a Word document no later than October 15, 2017.
Participating choruses will receive the completed piece in January 2018 via PDF. They can premiere the work in their communities until May 31, 2018, at which time the piece will be available for sale to the public. Participating ensembles will share the commissions (and printed dedications) equally. Participation must be confirmed and payment processed prior to August 18, 2017. Click HERE to register now.
