Sheet Music

International Music Score Music Library Project
www.IMSLP.org

This online library provides free scores of music that are in the public domain. Scores are searchable by composer, instrumentation or genre, and by melody (yes, there is a small keyboard where you input a melody). Most scores are scanned PDF files and vary in quality. Some works include an audio file (actual instruments or midi) for listening.

Choral Public Domain Library
www.CPDL.org

Begun in December 1998, CPDL is one of the world's largest free sheet music sites. The library hosts a large collection of music scores and other supporting files (such as midi or other sound files) which can be freely downloaded and used. Most of the scores on CPDL are modern editions based on older works whose copyright has lapsed (or which are otherwise in the public domain), but some scores are newly composed and offered for download by the composer.

The website moved to a wiki-based platform in 2005, which enables people to edit material on a website freely.

Beethoven Haus-Bonn
www.beethoven-haus-bonn.de

This is treasure trove of musical works and other manuscripts of Ludwig Beethoven. You can search works by title, first line of text, opus numbers, type of music (orchestral, choral, etc.), and year published.

Brahms Digital Collection
http://www.brahms-institut.de/web/bihl_digital/erstdrucke_start.html

Find any work of Johannes Brahms by opus number at this archive (in German). The German Requiem (Opus 45) offers seven scores for viewing, including the original in Brahms’ own hand with his musical markings. Fascinating, but perhaps not the one you want to carry on stage.

Mozart Digital Edition
http://dme.mozarteum.at/DME/nma

The website, operated by the Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum in cooperation with the Packard Humanities Institute, makes Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's musical compositions widely and conveniently accessible to the public. The scores can be used for personal study and for educational and classroom use, but downloading or reuse of the contents is prohibited.
