Calling On Choruses to #Sing1Voice

Singing together is a powerful tool for bringing people together. Let’s put that tool to work.

In the wake of this election season, our country seems to be defined by our differences. News channels and social media feeds are filled with fear, anger, and uncertainty as we grapple with how to move forward.

What is being lost in the noise is what we all have in common: a commitment to building a better future for our country and our children.

We believe that singing together is a powerful tool for bringing people together. Now is the time to put that tool to work.

The #Sing1Voice effort calls on the choral community to give voice to the things that unite us rather than divide us. As Francisco Núñez, artistic director of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City said, “Maybe if we listen to each other’s music, we will be willing to listen to each other’s words.”

We invite your chorus, choir, or singing ensemble to participate – and to spread the message. Here’s how:

Find or film a video of your ensemble singing about something that unites us – love, beauty, truth, peace.
Share your video using the hashtag #Sing1Voice on Facebook, YouTube, and any other social media platforms you use.
Invite more groups to do the same. In your post, tag at least two ensembles that are somehow different from yours – whether in location, genre, size, heritage, or another way – and invite them to participate.

Let’s create a space in which we can listen to and learn from each other.
