The Online Chorus Management Institute is a 13-week program that includes an orientation session and four three-week courses focused on Strategic Planning, Governance, Fundraising, and Marketing and Communications. The Institute will be run on Canvas, an interactive, user-friendly learning management system.

Instructional content for each week will be released on Mondays, with a full week to complete all assignments at your convenience. To get the most out of the Institute, you should plan to spend approximately 1.5 hours per week on your work.

The Institute runs the weeks of October 14-January 27 (with breaks the week of November 25 or the weeks of December 23 and 30 to accommodate the holidays).

Orientation: Week of October 14
Strategic Planning
Weeks of October 21,  and October 28
Instructor: Todd Estabrook
Learn how to create an effective strategic plan from the ground up. You’ll work with your organization’s mission, vision, and core values to build a plan that is relevant and achievable. 
You’ll leave with tools and language to refine:
  • Who your organization is
  • Who you serve and what you care about
  • A plan to help you reach your goals
Governance and Board Development
Weeks of November 4, November 11, and November 18
Instructor: Todd Estabrook
Learn a strategic approach to effective governance, from who is on your board to what the board should be doing. You’ll gain an understanding of how to manage the relationships involved, how to run successful meetings, and how to work through organization transitions.
You’ll build:
  • A framework for effective leadership and a plan to recruit your board
  • A strategy and the tools you need for efficient meetings
  • Steps to manage your organizations transitions
Marketing and Communications
Weeks of December 2, December 9, December 16, and January 6
Instructor: Ceci Dadisman
Create an outcome-based communications strategy built upon a strong foundation of skills and knowledge. You’ll leave this course knowing how to implement your strategy with channel-specific skills including email, social media, direct mail, and website optimization.
You'll leave with tactical skills in:
  • Identifying your target audience(s) and reaching them effectively
  • Creating compelling content that engages current and undiscovered audiences
  • Leveraging your own data to make smarter, more effective decisions
  • Optimizing your communications to bring the most results
  • Using the right tools to manage your communications campaign
Weeks of January 13, January 20, and January 27
Instructor: Kelly Lucera
Build a comprehensive fundraising program including setting annual fundraising goals and creating an effective written fundraising plan. You will learn the importance of the individual donor in the fundraising process and tips for individual donor prospecting, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding.
You’ll learn:
  • How to manage an annual fundraising campaign
  • How to use storytelling to build engagement
  • How to identify funding opportunities including grants, sponsorships, and special events
  • How to engage and cultivate individual donors
