The Elizabethan Syngers seek a permanent Music Director to start Spring 2019.
The Elizabethan Syngers is a semi-professional, non-profit a
capella choral group that was established in 1971 and is comprised of approximately 35 adult male and female auditioned singers (SSATB). The group performs secular and religious music of the 16th and 17th centuries in period costume with theatrics in various performances including the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.
Members also participate in a holiday season (featuring Renaissance and traditional holiday repertoire) and in various off- season community appearances. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings and run from mid-May through mid-August with a short break and resume in October through the first few weeks in December.
Responsibilities include planning and leading rehearsals, auditioning new members, working with the group’s committees to plan the seasons, and creating a repertoire memorization schedule.
Candidates must have a degree in music and or musical theater/ theater and experience directing adults in preparation for a concert or a theatrical production.
The Elizabethan Syngers is a volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) board run performing group, and its director must strike a successful balance between providing a fun rehearsal/performance environment and pushing the group to excel.
Salary is commensurate with experience and skills. This position could lead to an Artistic Director role for the right candidate.
