About Our Organization : Masterworks Chorale, in its 56th Season, is an auditioned volunteer chorus supported by a small professional part-time staff, a committed volunteer Board of Directors, and volunteer committees.

Masterworks Chorale inspires and engages our community through vibrant and expressive music-making. We strive to enrich the cultural tapestry of the Peninsula with diverse, dynamic programming through concerts and educational outreach programs.

Job Location : Administrative staff works remotely. The chorus generally rehearses at Transfiguration Episcopal Church (San Mateo) and performs in venues throughout the Peninsula.

Hours : Average 20-30 hours per week with some evenings and weekends Salary : Commensurate with experience, duties and hours

Job Summary : The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of Masterworks Chorale. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and ensures that the organization achieves its mission and meets its financial objectives. The Executive Director is responsible for many aspects of season planning, fundraising, finance, marketing, administrative functions, and personnel management.

Key Qualifications

  • ●  Multiple years of leadership and supervisory experience in nonprofit administration, preferably with experience in performing arts and music

  • ●  Successful fundraising track record and skills, including donor cultivation and grant writing

  • ●  Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • ●  Ability to work well in a collaborative environment

  • ●  Solid personnel management skills, especially ability to motivate and manage volunteers

  • ●  Experience managing complex calendars

  • ●  Experience in organizational budgeting

  • ●  Familiarity with standard office equipment, common office software, and computer

    proficiency and experience with QuickBooks and donor/ticketing software

  • ●  Ability to attend some rehearsals and all performances is essential

    Primary Responsibilities
    Fundraising (including but not limited to):

● Collaborate with the Board and Fund Development Committee, to strategize and to devise and implement fundraising activities for the organization, including but not limited to those focusing on individual donors, foundations, and corporations

  • ●  Collaborate with the Fund Development Committee to plan and execute special donor events

  • ●  Seek out and apply for grant funding as appropriate, in collaboration with Fund Development, Outreach, and the Board

    Financial (including but not limited to):

  • ●  Collaborate with the Budget/Finance committee, Director of Operations, bookkeeper, and accountant, to prepare the annual operating budget

  • ●  Monitor ongoing revenues and expenses, implement changes as needed, and make recommendations to the Board for corrections to ensure that budget is met or exceeded

  • ●  Work with Artistic Director and Director of Operations & Outreach Coordinator to provide budget recommendations to the Board for musical programs and administrative functions

    Marketing (including but not limited to):

  • ●  Guide and assist Marketing Committee to promote and publicize Masterworks Chorale concerts and programs within the community via public relations, media relations, our website, social media, and other forms of communication

  • ●  Coordinate with the Marketing Committee, Artistic Director, and vendors to create and produce season brochures, program booklets, newsletters, reports, and other marketing materials

    Administrative and Personnel (including but not limited to):

● Oversee administrative activities relating to personnel, tech, and the financial operations of the organization:

o Ensure the organization is effectively structured and staffed, including identifying needs, creating job descriptions, setting pay and benefits, and hiring/firing all administrative staff (musical/artistic staff excepted)

o Collaborate with the Technology or designated committee to ensure that office technology and web presence are current and accurate

o Coordinate with the accountant and other committees to ensure that all federal, state, and county government-required reports and documents are submitted by due dates

● Oversee volunteer committee heads

Planning, Creative, and Other

  • ●  Ensure that the Board of Directors is kept fully informed on the organization’s condition

  • ●  Consult Artistic Director on season planning

  • ●  Collaborate with Board President on strategic planning, Board retreats, and Board

    meetings

  • ●  Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field of

    musical performance and non-profit arts organizations

  • ●  Ability to lift 20 lbs. and transport office/rehearsal/concert supplies

  • ●  Computer proficiency
