Our Chorus Operations Survey (COS) is the most comprehensive source of data available on choruses and the choral field. The information gathered helps choruses make better decisions about programming, budgeting, staffing, and other management practices.
This year, through a new partnership with DataArts, the leading arts and culture researcher, the COS will become an even more powerful tool. DataArts, formerly the Cultural Data Project, was founded to bring the language and leverage of data to the business of culture. With this partnership, we are proud to join colleagues at Opera America, National Guild for Community Arts Education, and other national services organizations in contributing to research that will benefit the arts in communities everywhere.
Chorus America members will now complete the COS through the DataArts platform, allowing them to:
- Complete the COS and a Cultural Data Profile (CDP) for their organization on the same platform. The CDP is DataArts’ flagship service, which thousands of cultural nonprofits use annually to report their financial and programmatic information. If you have already completed a CDP for your chorus' most recent fiscal year, you will only be prompted to respond to the additional questions in the Chorus Operations Survey module.
- Take a customizable survey, which offers a shorter form for organizations with annual expenses under $50,000.
- Create easy-to-read reports on finances, program activity, and more with the push of a button.

Chorus Operations Survey Report
Read the most recent Chorus Operations Survey Report, including more than 45 different analyses, from number of board meetings to board giving, from ticket pricing to chorus dues amounts, from accompanist pay practices to marketing efficiency. A new field-wide report will be available in February 2018.
