The artistic director (AD) provides the artistic vision of the Falmouth Chorale and is responsible for the leadership and direction of every aspect of the performances by the Chorale. The artistic director reports to the board of directors and works with appropriate officers, general manager, and others in the performance of the duties listed below. The contact with the AD shall be the President, or their designee. 

Artistic Management

  • Provides overall artistic leadership and direction to the chorale
  • Evaluates chorale members for appropriate placement and selects members for the chamber group
  • Collaborates with the orchestra manager in the selection of orchestra members
  • Supervises all artistic aspects in the choice of repertoire and selection of venues
  • Recommends all soloists to the board and participates in the determination of fees
  • Recommends the accompanist to the board
  • Supervises all rehearsals and concerts
  • Provides input for all recording activities
  • Writes program notes for each concert
  • Prepares scores for chorus, orchestra, and soloists
  • Solicits opportunities to collaborate with other appropriate organizations

Board Relations

  • Presents written monthly reports to the board regarding the status of the artistic programs and projects
  • Attends board meetings to represent the artistic product, as requested
  • Participates in fundraising activities, as requested
  • Participates in the strategic planning process

Public Relations

  • Serves as a key official spokesperson for the organization
  • Participates in community activities that further the name recognition of the chorale
  • Represents the chorale in all media appearances
  • Participates in musical and professional organizations locally and nationally
  • Collaborates with board of directors in developing marketing campaigns and publicity for the chorale, as requested

Financial Management

  • Develops annually, by March 31, a comprehensive artistic plan for the following fiscal year that provides the basis for the annual budget
  • Follows the approved annual budget for the programs
  • Collaborates in the preparation and presentation of grant applications and other major solicitations, as requested
