Houston Choral Showcase celebrates 80th Anniversary

One of the longest performing arts groups in Houston is Houston Choral Showcase, a volunteer adult show choir singing choral arrangements of popular music such as swing, jazz, pop, gospel, and Broadway. Founded in 1932, this year marks their 80th anniversary. Houston Choral Showcase was originally formed as a program with the Houston Parks Department (called the Houston Community Chorus at that time). In the 1980s the choir became an independent non-profit organization and took the name Greater Houston Chorus. To reflect the group’s identity as a show choir, the name was changed in 1997 to Houston Choral Showcase. Diane Benson has been the Music Director for 26 years. Celebrations this year will culminate in the annual Holiday Show on December 16, 2012. More information about the group is at www.houstonchoralshowcase.org.
