Houston Choral Showcase Announces New Music Director

Houston Choral Showcase, a show choir with adult singers, has selected Jen Young as its new music director. Young joins the group with extensive experience as a choir director, choral arranger, vocalist, and performer. During the 17 years Young directed in Brisbane, Australia, her show choirs achieved a “Gold” ranking in numerous competitions. Her skill for utilizing modern techniques and groundbreaking pieces and routines will be a true strength for Houston Choral Showcase.

Young says, “I’m very excited about the opportunity to connect with such a talented group and raise us up to even greater heights! The camaraderie in the group is incredible. They have already created a second family for me, and the level of musicianship on the whole is brilliant for a community-based ensemble.”

In her new role as music director, Young hopes to grow the group’s membership and branch out into greater challenges. Her priorities for the choir are to ensure a greater presence and increased market share in the Houston music scene and to develop growth areas such as spin-off choirs and feeder groups. She believes Australians are known for their work ethic as well as their good attitude towards balance and enjoying all experiences.

Young has a bachelor of music from Queensland University of Technology, where she also studied education, psychology, and choral conducting and arranging. In addition to her choral work, Jen runs a successful private teaching studio and is a well-established solo and ensemble singer. When Young is not directing or teaching, she is spending time with her husband Brenden and kids Cory (4) and Koa (1).
