From Composer David Avshalomov--A NEW WORK IN TIME OF LOSS: "There Was Another Song to Sing"

Alto (or Mezzo) solo, SATB, piano, cello, opt. harp. 4 minutes.

This is a touching memorial to one who died too young; alternative wordings are provided to address the passing of either a male or a female. Modern tonal style, medium difficulty (all performers). Short instrumental introduction, slow solo voice start with choral echoes, livelier reminiscing middle section, cello interlude, and a slow reprise with a long-arch choral/solo close. Lyrics adapted and translated from a well-known Chaim Bialik poem. Commissioned by St. Edward’s Episcopal Church, La Canada, CA.
