Cayuga Vocal Ensemble premieres two works in observance of its 40th Anniversary

The Cayuga Vocal Ensemble of Ithaca, NY, closed its 40th anniversary season on May 7 with a concert featuring two new works. One was commissioned by CVE from composer David Sisco: I Am in Need of Music, for chorus and piano with poem by Elizabeth Bishop. The second resulted from a call for compositions from composition students at New York State schools of music. The winning entry was submitted by Ithaca College composition and voice performance major Jacob Kerzner: Possent Aurisque Iuvare, for chorus with cello, based on a passage from Lucretius' "On the Nature of Things." Carl Johengen has served as music director of CVE since 2009.
