THE ESOTERICS’ POLYPHONOS

πολυφωνος

 2012-2013 Competition

The Esoterics announces its international call for a cappella choral scores for its annual competition for choral composition, POLYPHONOS, from the Greek πολυφωνος, “having many voices” or “manifold in expression.”  The purpose of The Esoterics’ POLYPHONOS competition is to encourage today’s choral composers to broaden the scope of the a cappella repertory, by setting texts from beyond the Western classical canon.

Each winning composer will receive a commission from The Esoterics to compose a new choral work that will be premiered by the ensemble in 2013. In addition to this commission, each winner will receive $1000) US, along with airfare and lodging so that they can attend the Seattle premiere of their commissioned work. There will be up to three POLYPHONOS awards:

International composer (for choral composers who are not US citizens)

Young composer (for choral composers under age 30 as of 31 December 2012)
