Brooklyn Youth Chorus offers exceptional music training and choral performances to enrich the lives of its students and community. Through music study and professional-level performing experiences, the Chorus unites children of diverse backgrounds and helps them develop into confident and expressive musicians and individuals. BYC strives to advance the artistic role of youth choruses through innovative concert programming, collaborations, and the commissioning of new choral repertoire.
Brooklyn Youth Chorus seeks a full-time Development Coordinator to join its development team during a time of significant growth and excitement in the organization’s 25-year history. This individual will play a critical role in supporting all development functions and will have the opportunity to grow within the organization’s fundraising department.
The Development Coordinator is a full-time, exempt position, which will report directly to the Director of Development and Institutional Advancement. The responsibilities and tasks are:
1. Individual Donor Management

  • Process donations and prepare acknowledgment letters and other donor correspondence
  • Assist with all aspects of individual gift solicitations including efforts to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors
  • Edit content for individual donor solicitations
  • Assist in the development of an annual master stewardship and cultivation calendar, and maintain/update this calendar as needed
  • Assist in scheduling donor and prospect meetings

2. Grant Administration

  • Provide support for the submission of grant applications for corporate, foundation and government supporters
  • Maintain institutional calendar for reporting and applying for funding
  • Keep track of obligations and deliverables associated to corporate sponsorships
  • Prepare administrative and stewardship correspondence and acknowledgments to institutional donors

3. Board Liaison

  • Schedule all board and committee meetings
  • Handle all administrative details associated with the board and committee meetings (i.e. prepare and distribute notices, agendas, minutes, etc.)
  • Handle all board meeting logistics

4. Event Management

  • Provide support in a range of administrative and logistical capacities as needed for all development events including the Spring Gala, all self-produced concerts, and cultivation events and stewardship event

5. Database Management

  • Continually update and correct database records (Raiser’s Edge)
  • Manage all mass print and e-mailings for annual appeal, gala and other key events

6. Administration

  • Proofread and edit organizational documents
  • Schedule all development-related meeting
  • Assemble media and donor kits for events and meetings
  • Pitch in on various administrative tasks, as needed


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-2 years of professional experience with at least 1 year of development experience
  • Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge and experience with Filemaker Pro preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent proofreading skills and attention to details
  • Ability to multi-task and work under deadline
  • Strong sense of personal accountability and follow-through
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Interest or background in the performing arts
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
