Joshua Fishbein

Joshua Fishbein (b. 1984) composes and arranges vocal and instrumental music, with special emphasis on choral music. He has won awards from The American Prize, the American Choral Directors Association, the American Composers Forum, BMI, the Cantate Chamber Singers, the Cerddorion Vocal Ensemble, Chorus America, Chorus Austin, the Delaware Valley Chorale, The Esoterics, the Guild of Temple Musicians, Morningside College, the National Lutheran Choir, WomenSing, and several others. Professional vocal ensembles, such as Cantus, Chicago a cappella, The Thirteen, Volti, and the Washington Master Chorale, have premiered Fishbein’s music.

Steeped in Jewish classical music, Dr. Fishbein has composed numerous musical settings of Hebrew for chorus and solo voice. His Hebrew vocal music has been presented at Shalshelet’s International Festivals of New Jewish Liturgical Music, the Max Helfman Institute for New Jewish Music, the American Society for Jewish Music, the American Jewish Historical Society, and the Cantor’s Assembly. Currently, Dr. Fishbein teaches on the music theory faculties of The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and Towson University. Previously, he taught at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, The College of New Jersey, and the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Fishbein holds degrees in music from the University of California Los Angeles, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Carnegie Mellon University. E.C. Schirmer Music Company, Hal Leonard Corporation, Transcontinental Music Publications, and Yelton Rhodes Music publish his choral compositions.
