Caron Daley

Caron Daley is Director of Choral Activities and Assistant Professor of Music at the Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University, where she conducts the Voices of Spirit, Women’s Pappert Chorale, and University Singers, and teaches undergraduate and graduate choral conducting. A native of Nova Scotia, Caron has held past conducting appointments with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, University of Toronto, the National Youth Choir of Canada, Salem Academy and College, and St. Michael's Choir School. She holds a D.M.A. (Choral Conducting) from the University of Toronto, an M.M. (Choral Conducting) and M.A. (Vocal Pedagogy) from The Ohio State University, an Artist Diploma (Voice) and B.M. (Music Education) from Western University, and an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Canada Diploma (Voice). A certified Dalcroze Eurhythmics teacher, Caron frequently lectures on the sound-gesture relationship in choral conducting, and is published in Anacrusis, Canadian Music Educator’s Journal, Research Memorandum Series of Chorus America, and Teaching Music through Performance in Choir, Vol. 4. She sits on the editorial boards of the National Collegiate Choral Organization’s Choral Scholar and Choral Canada's Anacrusis, in which she writes Podium Perspectives, a column exploring topics in conductor leadership. An active member of the American Choral Directors Association, Caron sits on the 2018 Eastern Division Conference planning committee and is a Fellow of the 2017 International Conductor’ Exchange Program to South America. In 2013, Caron founded the Halifax Choral Conducting Institute, a collaborative training program for conductors that annually attracts participants from across North America. A busy performer, she regularly guest conducts all-county and district choirs, and sings with Voces Solis, a Pittsburgh-based professional choir.
