A Mass Affair – French Kiss
Requiem Masses of
Gabriel Faure (1845-1924)
Maurice Durufle (1902-1986)
Thomas W. Douglas
Artistic Director and Conductor
Concertmaster of the Academy Chamber Orchestra
The twist here is that the sections of the Mass will be intermingled, e.g.- the Kyrie of one followed by the Kyrie of the other, then the Credo of the first next to the Credo of the second, etc. – hence the “French Kiss” in the program’s title.

Speaking about these concerts to be presented on Valentine’s Day and the Sunday following, Artistic Director Thomas W. Douglas says:
These two French master composers each provided stunning choral versions of the Requiem mass celebration. Approximately 60 years separate the two works, and this presents an opportunity to juxtapose sections of each to see how they are similar and how different. The totality offers a full concert of beautiful, moving French music and the comparisons will enable the audience and singers alike to be swept up in these terrific pieces.
