Coro Allegro Celebrates 20 Years With Artistic Director David Hodgkins.
Coro Allegro, Boston’s only mixed chorus for members and friends of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities, has dedicated its 2012-2013 season to celebrating the twentieth anniversary of David Hodgkins’ tenure as the ensemble’s Artistic Director. The season culminates in June 2013 with the world premiere of a work by noted composer Greg Bullen.
In a recent interview, Hodgkins reflected on his two decades with Coro. “It’s been an exciting 20 years for me, full of richly rewarding experiences and growth,” he observed. “Coro has emerged as a vibrant, healthy organization able to reach and maintain high musical standards. And in many ways we’re just starting to hit our stride. We recently received the ASCAP/Alice Parker Award from Chorus America for innovative programming. We’ve just released our first two commercial CDs, “Awakenings” and “In Paradisum” on the Navona label and have a third one in the works. I’m eager to begin the next chapter.”
