Qualified singers of all ages and all voice parts are welcome to come and sing Fauré’s beautiful and ever-popular Requiem, and his enchanting Cantique de Jean Racine.
We assemble at 1:45 PM to rehearse starting at 2:00 PM on Sunday 5 August 2018. The performance will start at 4:00 PM and will be followed be a reception.
Singers should download the Requiem score edited by Philip Legge from the CPDL web site and either print it off or add it to their tablet. [http://www1.cpdl.org/wiki/images/3/37/Faure_Requiem_VS_PML.pdf]
They should also download the Cantique in the version edited by Rafael Ornes which we will perform, rehearsal time permitting. [http://www2.cpdl.org/wiki/images/0/0e/Ws-faur-can.pdf]
Some scores will be available on the day for a nominal fee.
The cost is $10 or by donation for singers and $20 or by donation for audience members. This is a fund-raiser for the Ensemble, so your contribution goes to support our bold and innovative program for our 2018/19 season which includes the American premiere of a new piece by Arvo Pärt, Rachmaninov’s All-Night Vigil, and James MacMillan’s astonishing “Seven Last Words from the Cross.” Tickets for singers and audience members are available at the door.
There are three extra opportunities to give for this concert. Bids start at $100 each if you (or someone you nominate) would like to:
a) sing the soprano solo (Pie Jesu)
b) sing the baritone solos (Hostias and Libera me)
c) conduct a movement in concert
To register your interest in one or more of these opportunities, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. The bidding will close at 12:00 noon on Friday 4 August, 2018 so that the winners can prepare their solos.
Please forward this invite to anyone you think might enjoy spending a summer afternoon with this beautiful music!
