Still Singing III, Seasons & Cycles of Life
We’re excited to present our latest video concert, which celebrates the four seasons in musical form. “Still Singing III: Seasons and Cycles of Life”.
Commissioning new music for women’s voices is a major portion of the Ensemble’s mission. Since 1981, we have commissioned 38 new pieces. In the third video of the 2020–2021 Still Singing series, we offer an in-depth exploration of David W. Beatty’s lovely 2019 commissioned piece, "Mementos of the Compass of Time". Enjoy behind-the-scenes insights into the intricacies of the composition by the composer himself, poet Miriam Sagan, and Ensemble singers, interwoven with a performance of the work by the Ensemble and the Durango Women’s Choir from our 2019 collaborative spring concert.
All this inspirational music is bookended by "Duo Seraphim clamabant" by Tomas Luis de Victoria. and a virtual performance by the Ensemble of Eleanor Daley’s "An Irish Blessing". The beautiful sounds and words of "Seasons and Cycles of Life" are enhanced by the compelling artwork of Matthew Bregier, poignant photography of Ken and Julie Kirk, and the videographic magic of Raymond Raney.
