Sarah Maria Leung

Conducting Scholar

A native of Hong Kong and now based in Toronto, Sarah Maria Leung has always been captivated by the evocative and emotive powers of music. She is currently music director at Calvin Presbyterian Church & Deer Park United Church, and assistant conductor at the project-based, professional-level group Incontra Vocal Ensemble. She is also intern conductor at the Toronto Children's Chorus, where she helps conduct Main Choir under the guidance of artistic director Elise Bradley. Recipient of the David and Marcia Beach Summer Study Award, Sarah studied with Simon Carrington at Sarteano Chamber Choral Conducting Workshop, Italy, in July 2016.

Sarah holds a MMus in choral conducting from University of Toronto. She earned a BA at University of Southern California, double majoring in choral music and world history, and graduating with the USC Thornton School of Music Choral & Sacred Music Departmental Award. Sarah’s conducting teachers include Hilary Apfelstadt, Cristian Grases, Uri Mayer, Jo-Michael Scheibe, and Tram Sparks. An avid singer, she is an alumnus of the renowned USC Thornton Chamber Singers and has performed at various international choral festivals in the United States, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Austria and Italy. She currently sings with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.
