Be part of creating new choral repertoire AND support Chorus America!
Every year, Chorus America presents two commission consortium opportunities to choruses—one for SATB choruses and one for children & youth choruses. These consortiums allow participating groups to be a part of commissioning a new work from well-loved composers and to premiere the work in their community. Proceeds from the commissioning fees go to support the core programs and services of Chorus America.
We are thrilled to announce that this year, renowned composers Rollo Dilworth and Alice Parker will donate commissions.
Rollo Dilworth Commission Consortium: Renowned conductor, composer and educator Rollo Dilworth will compose a 3-4 minute piece, for SATB choir with keyboard accompaniment, based on a text of his choosing. The piece and text will be secular but could also be performed in a religious setting. The cost to participate is just $500 per chorus.
Details: Participating choruses will receive the completed piece by June 2014 and will receive enough printed copies for each of their singers. They can premiere the work in their communities until December 31, 2014, at which time the piece will be available for sale to the public. Participating ensembles will share the commissions (and printed dedications) equally. Click here for the Dilworth participation form. Deadline extended! The form and payment must be processed prior to October 31, 2013.
Alice Parker Commission Consortium for Children/Youth choruses: Composer Alice Parker offers a SA or SSA piece with piano accompaniment for children/youth choruses. Alice Parker's life-work has been in choral and vocal music and her compositions have been performed and recorded by choruses throughout the world.
The Alice Parker Commission Consortium is now closed. The composer for the 2014 children/youth commission consortium will be announced in early 2014.
