June 2014 Call for Performing Ensembles: Kennedy Center and Chorus America

Application deadline: November 30, 2012

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Chorus America are excited to announce several performance opportunities for choruses located in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area between June 9-15, 2014. During that time, the Kennedy Center will present the first National Choral Festival and Chorus America will simultaneously host its Annual Conference.

To apply:

  1. Download and read the Call for Applications, which includes additional information about the three potential performance opportunities, and the application checklist (also found below) that details all the necessary components of a complete application (six copies of the application form, letter of intent, CD worksample, CD track listing).
  2. Download and complete the Application Form as a fillable Word form (simply type in the gray boxes, save, print and sign) or as a PDF.
  3. Mail your complete application packet with a tracking number (delivery confirmation) to the address specified to arrive by November 30, 2012.

A complete application includes all of the following:

 Six copies of your completed Application Form (see above).

 Six copies of a Letter of Interest that includes:

  • Confirmation that you wish to be considered to perform at the Monday Kennedy Center Festival Kick-Off, the Sunday Kennedy Center Closing Concert, the Chorus America Conference, or any combination of the above opportunities.
  • 150-word (max) bios of your chorus and artistic/music director (or if you are a collaborative ensemble, please provide the bio of your primary artistic liaison).
  • As applicable: Proposed repertoire list for a 30-minute performance for the Kennedy Center Festival Kick-Off.
  • As applicable: Proposed repertoire list for a 30-minute Featured Performing Ensemble concert at the Chorus America Conference.
  • Any additional information that the selection panel should know about your chorus and the possible performances in June 2014.
  • A recent photo of the ensemble or link to a website that shows a recent photo of the ensemble.

 Six copies of a CD worksample that represents your ensemble at its best.

  • This CD must include no more than 25 minutes of music.
  • It should only include works performed within the last two (2) years.
  • Avoid tracks that include long instrumental interludes.
  • At least one track must be a live concert recording.
  • Please test CDs before sending and label them clearly with the name of your ensemble.

Six copies of a separate CD track list containing track numbers, titles, composers, running time, date recorded, and whether or not it is a live recording.

All application materials should be on 8.5x11 paper, collated, and 3-hole punched. Please do not staple anything.

Applications are preferred to the PO Box address below. Applications must arrive by November 30. When shipping, we require that you add Delivery Confirmation so you can ensure that your materials arrive safely.
