When Malia Ka'ai Barrett took over as general manager of the Hawai'i Youth Opera Chorus, it was for the love of the music—pure and simple. Despite a lifelong involvement with choruses, Barrett had little training or experience in the technical aspects of running a mid-sized nonprofit organization.
