Position: Part Time Symphony Chorus Director
Organization:
The Canton Symphony Chorus is an auditioned, volunteer, adult mixed chorus. The CSC is a part of the Canton Symphony Orchestra Association, who will be celebrating its 75th season in the fall of 2012. The CSC rehearses from late August through April and typically performs with the orchestra on three concerts: a MasterWorks concert (main-stage Classical), the Holiday pops concert and a Casual concert (smaller chamber orchestra, casual setting). The CSC works is run by a volunteer board consisting of a President, Treasurer and Membership Chair and works closely with administrative staff.
Responsibilities:
Oversee and develop all aspects of the association's choral programs. Plan and conduct weekly evening rehearsals. Collaborate with Music Director and Executive Director in the development of programming and the engagement of guest soloists. Work with Orchestra Librarian in ordering music for purchase and/or rental. Lead recruitment efforts for new singers, holding auditions as necessary. Support the fundraising and community outreach efforts of the organization. Develop relationships with local high school and college/university choirs for collaboration on major works.
Qualifications:
Outstanding musicianship plus strong choral and orchestral conducting skills. Thorough knowledge of major choral literature. Demonstrated strength in working with large choruses to meet high performance standards. Graduate degree in conducting or demonstrated professional experience required.
Salary Range:
$10,000-$13,000 dependent upon experience.
