The Choral Arts Society of Washington is recognized as a leading arts organization in Washington, DC and as one of the country’s premier symphonic choruses.  Under the new leadership of Artistic Director Designate, Scott Tucker, Choral Arts presents its symphonic chorus of 175 professional-caliber volunteer singers in a full season of performances at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and other DC-area venues. The chorus has performed with leading symphony orchestras, sung under the world’s most distinguished conductors, produced 17 acclaimed recordings, toured nationally and internationally, and participated in numerous special events both live and televised.
 
The Position
The Choral Arts Society seeks an experienced, full-time Marketing and Public Relations Manager for marketing, public relations, and box office functions. The Marketing and Public Relations Manager works collaboratively with the Development Department in the planning and execution of special events for patrons and donors. The Marketing and Public Relations Manager works closely with and reports to the Executive Director.  Some evening and weekend work required.
 
Responsibilities
Marketing/Public Relations
o        Develop season marketing and ticket sales plan and individual concert marketing and ticket sales strategies: ad placement, e-marketing, promotions, etc.
o        Write copy for marketing and development materials (concert postcards, posters, program inserts, etc.)
o        Manage and execute media buys
o        Manage collateral production from concept to final product; work with graphic designer and outside printers; assist development with collateral production as needed
o        Maintain press contacts and solicit reviewers for each concert
o        Maintain press contacts for annual gala; oversee all gala press coverage
o        Pitch and secure feature press coverage throughout the year
o        Accompany staff on radio and TV interviews, as well as media photo shoots
o        Submit media calendar listings throughout the year
o        Coordinate all photography at concerts and special photo shoots as needed
o        Create videos and other multimedia content to promote concerts and CASW events
o        Build community relationships to craft and execute promotions
o        Develop group sales contacts and targeted marketing mailings for individual concerts
o        Help manage mailing list for marketing and fundraising appeals
o        Conduct ongoing market and patron research
o        Work with staff to maintain website and social media presence (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube)
o        Draft marketing and press materials as assigned; maintain and update press packets as needed
o        Draft, implement, monitor and project annual budget for the department
o        Track sales and furnish regular reports
o        Serve as main contact with webmaster; oversee web content and annual contracts
o        Maintain marketing, press and photo archives
o        Serve as staff liaison for Young Patrons group; manage volunteers and plan and execute audience development events
 
Patron Services/Special Events: Work collaboratively with the Development Team to enhance patron relationships.
o        Assist with planning and execution of special events for patrons and donors
o        Maintain and cultivate relationships with single ticket buyers, subscribers, donors, Board, and chorus
o        Coordinate all photography and press coverage for special events
 
Ticketing/Box OfficeOversee Box Office functions for subscription series and concerts.
o        Oversee annual subscription renewal process and ticketing strategies
o        Maintain and facilitate ticketing relationships with the Kennedy Center and other venues
o        Supervise box office functions
o        Prepare all reporting and reconciliation statements for each concert
o        Oversee CD sales and merchandise
 
Requirements
§         Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years experience
§         Experience with marketing and public relations strategies required; special events experience preferred
§         Experience with viral and web marketing tools
§         Highly responsible and with professional demeanor
§         Exceptional organizational skills
§         Knowledge of and familiarity with local and national cultural communities
§         Ability to take independent initiative and be a team player in a collaborative environment
§         Strong computer skills (experience with ticketing systems and databases a plus)
§         Excellent communications, writing and editing skills
§         Ability to set and meet sales goals
§         Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
§         Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours
§         Sense of humor
§         Interest in and appreciation of music and/or the arts required
