The Music Center is a performing and educational organization comprising of seven choruses, four music school campuses and one symphony orchestra, serving the South Central region of Michigan with headquarters in Battle Creek, Michigan.  Included in the choruses is the Battle Creek Boychoir, the Battle Creek Girls Chorus and the Battle Creek Community Chorus, three programs with a proud legacy in the area.  The choruses perform a six to seven concert series, in addition to numerous runout concerts and collaborations with the Battle Creek Symphony.  In addition, the Battle Creek Boychoir and the Battle Creek Girls Chorus tour annually, with an international tour planned every three years.  The Music Center is run by a volunteer board and a professional staff.
Responsibilities:
The Choral Music Director shall assume all responsibilities related to the artistic and administrative direction of the Battle Creek Community Chorus, Battle Creek Boychoir, and Battle Creek Girls Chorus including, but not limited to, program design, selection of music, recruiting, auditioning and selecting singers, scheduling and conducting all rehearsals and performances, working with Staff Accompanist and other artistic personnel, assisting with promotion and fundraising, working with the chorus representative committee and parent volunteer organization, and planning and executing tours and other activities.  The Choral Music Director reports to the Artistic Director and works closely with the Executive Director of the Music Center. 
This is a part time salaried position, estimated to average 35 hours/week for 48 weeks.

Qualifications:
Outstanding musicianship plus strong choral conducting skills. Thorough knowledge of major choral literature. Demonstrated strength in working volunteer choruses and children. Dynamic, energetic style and ability to engage with volunteer musicians.  Graduate degree in conducting or demonstrated professional experience required.

Compensation and Benefits:

$30,000 - $35,000 dependent upon experience.
