Choral Education Workshop Faculty

Lori Marie Rios is in her 13th year as professor of music at College of the Canyons (COC), where she conducts the Chamber Singers and Voices of the Canyons. She administers the Individualized Voice Program and teaches voice. The College of the Canyons Chamber Singers were selected to sing at the California Choral Directors Conference this past March. Lori Marie is currently the chair for the Vision for the Future Scholarship Fund in which she started under her presidency of the California chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and serves on the regional and national steering committees for the association. Professor Rios is an adjunct professor at California State University Fullerton where she is a mentor for music education students. 

Currently, she is the associate director and singing member of Vox Femina of Los Angeles. Prior to her appointment at COC, she directed the choral program at La Canada High School. Her choirs appeared at the American Choral Directors Association regional (2004) and national conventions (2007). The choirs at La Canada also performed at the California Music Educators Conferences. From 1991–1999, she was director of children’s music at St. Margaret Mary Parish School. Lori Marie is a founding instructor of the Choral Education Workshop hosted at California State University, Fullerton. She has taught voice and graduate-level conducting at CSU Los Angeles' summer graduate program and is a faculty member and assistant director of the choral-vocal faculty of the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program. Lori Marie has prepared chorus for the Los Angeles Bach Festival, Foothill Master Chorale and the Don Brinegar Singers. She made her Walt Disney Concert Hall debut in 2006 as the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Requiem. As a soloist she has performed the Rossini Stabat Mater, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Handel’s Messiah and many others. Lori Marie has worked under such conductors as Paul Salamunovich, Don Brinegar, Dennis Shrock, Bruce Mayhall -Rastrelli, Jonathan Talberg, and Grant Gershon. 

Additionally, Lori Marie has presented at the California All-State Music Association, the American Choral Directors Association, the Nevada Music Educators Association, and the Canadian Rocky Choral Education Association. Professor Rios has conducted All-State Middle Honor Choir in Nevada, All-State Mixed Honor Choir in Idaho, and was invited to Tokyo to work with the esteemed program at the St. Mary’s International School. She is in high demand as a choral clinician, guest conductor, and adjudicator. She has conducted district and state-wide honor choirs Recently she was appointed as the artistic director of the Los Angeles Bach Festival. She also is one of the founding members of the 4-woman group Diva Complex. She holds a master's of music degree in conducting and vocal performance from the University of Nevada, Reno and a bachelor's of music in choral studies.
