Conducting Masterclass

Chorus America will present a Conducting Masterclass as part of the Annual Conference in Washington, DC on Thursday, June 12, 2014, from 2:15-5:15pm at the First Congregational Church of Christ. Fellows will have the opportunity to work with members of The Singing Sergeants, the official chorus of the United States Air Force, and master conductors Anton Armstrong and John Alexander on a cappella literature.

Conference delegates are invited to observe these master teachers coach emerging professional conductors.

Fellows will prepare two contrasting pieces from the following list of repertoire: 

  • So I’ll Sing With My Voice, Dominick Argento                                                           
  • Water Night, Eric Whitacre
  • My Spirit Sang All Day, Gerald Finzi   
  • Sure On This Shining Night, Morten Lauridsen
  • O Nata Lux, Morten Lauridsen
  • Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit, William Dawson
  • There is a Balm in Gilead, William Dawson

Fellows will receive:

  • At least 30 minutes of podium time with the master conductors in front of an audience of Conference delegates
  • A 30-minute review session with Anton Armstrong and/or John Alexander after the Masterclass
  • A digital recording of their podium session
  • Complimentary registration for the 2014 Chorus America Annual Conference  

Masterclass Participation Fee: $350
Fellows will receive a complimentary Conference registration, but are responsible for additional ticketed events, transportation, lodging, and other expenses during the Conference. 

Masterclass Application: Applications must be received by Monday, April 21, 2014, and all applicants will be notified of their application status no later than Friday, May 9, 2014. 

Application must include:

  • Three copies of this completed application form
  • $10 non-refundable application fee; application fee does not apply toward the participation fee for the Masterclass
  • Three copies of a DVD that meets the DVD guidelines
  • One letter of recommendation; may be emailed directly to [email protected]
