Messiah in Space

Messiah in Space

Pittsburgh, PA

BriGuySinger | Adults/Seniors, Audiences, Conducting, Diversity, Families, Impact/Value, Performance, Repertoire, Singing, Social Media, Symphonic, Venue, Volunteer

The second concert in the season entitled Time Voyagers presents a reprise of the very popular interpretation of George Frederic Handel’s brilliant oratorio Messiah, in a version entitled Messiah in Space. This does not have to do with travel into the cosmos, but places the well-known work in a most intriguing physical space. The Hunt Armory provides a unique setting for a dramatic revision of this masterwork. Recounting the biblical stories of the Messiah surrounded by the implements of war offers a thoughtful new approach to the beautiful music in this stunning oratorio. When last presented in 2007, Messiah in Space drew rave reviews from audience members and the press. Bach Choir Artistic Director Thomas W. Douglas comments, “The passage of time only enhances our appreciation of the brilliance of this musical work. We now want to recount the biblical story in a context that speaks of the conflict between conscience and human nature. When the Prophet asks, ‘Why do the nations rage so furiously together?’, we often experience that in a church setting. Hearing that within the walls of Hunt Armory the meaning is magnified and provokes even deeper consideration.” These performances continue the commitment of the Bach Choir to present unique programs in intriguing venues. This season of Time Voyagers continues the vision of Artistic Director Douglas by programming an interesting exploration of Time and its meaning as we examine our own place in the temporal universe with Messiah in Space. Tickets are available in advance at www.BachPgh.Showclix.com or at 1-888-718-4253   Tickets are also available at the door on the day of performance.   Prices range from $10-$30.   More info at www.BachChoirPittsburgh.org Read more
