Since the season of spring is a favored time for weddings, Festival Chorale Oregon is contributing to the mood with a May 19 “Celebration of Love” at 7:30 p.m.  in the Historic Elsinore Theatre.  The concert will open with the well-known Liebeslieder Waltzer  (“Lovesong Waltzes”), Opus 52, by Johannes Brahms. This series of dances, illuminating many moods of courtship, is accompanied by piano duet, with Ann Snelling and David Rutherford at the keyboard.

The second portion of the concert arrives at the wedding itself.  Guest artist Christine Elder will be featured in J.S. Bach’s solo wedding cantata for soprano, Weichet nur, betrubte Schatten, BWV 202, with chamber orchestra accompaniment. The concert will conclude with settings of love poetry contained in the Song of Solomon, including the Wedding Cantata (1959) by Daniel Pinkham accompanied by strings, horns, and celesta, and shorter works by Healey Willan (1929), Rene Clausen (1989), and Richard Nance (2000).
