The Bach Society Houston announces auditions for the Bach Choir for the upcoming 2012-2013 season.

The Bach Choir is a paid, professional ensemble of 16 singers, the only vocal ensemble in Houston specializing in historically-informed performance practice of baroque music. Its season of concerts and Bach Vespers centers around Bach’s cantatas, but includes five centuries of choral music by his predecessors, contemporaries, and later composers whom he influenced. You can see the Bach Society’s most recent season at bachsocietyhouston.org.

We seek singers with:

·   Extensive choral and ensemble experience
·   Excellent sight-reading skills
·   Interest in early music performance practice
·   Solid vocal technique

Singers should be comfortable in a low-vibrato choral environment. Soloists for the Bach Vespers (cantata) series are chosen from the Bach Choir when possible.

Audition requirements:
·   Singers interested in being considered for solo positions should prepare a recitative and aria from a Bach cantata.
·   Singers auditioning for chorus positions have two options: a baroque song or aria, preferably in German, or a substantial excerpt from a chorus of a baroque choral work, such as a Bach Passion, Mass, or oratorio of the period.

We will provide a piano accompanist; please bring an extra copy of your music for the accompanist.

Audition Schedule:
June 23, 3:00-5:00pm
June 25, 6:00-8:00pm
June 28, 4:00-6:00pm
