2011 Chorus America/ASCAP Adventurous Programming Awards

Application Procedure

All applications must be postmarked by February 28, 2011. Applicants for the Adventurous Programming awards must be chorus members of Chorus America and ASCAP licensees in good standing.

1. In the first paragraph of a one-page cover letter, indicate the ensemble's name, the category in which you are applying, and the artistic director of the group. Describe the significance of your programming or any aspects of your programs that you consider notable relative to this award.

2. Submit 5 sets of 8 1/2 x 11-inch photocopies of all printed concert programs your chorus presented in the 2009-2010 season; please use 3-hole punched paper. Submit only the list of pieces performed from the program book. Do not submit program notes, advertisements or performers' biographies. Do not submit duplicate concert programs for repeated concerts. If a program was performed more than once, indicate on the top right-hand corner of the photocopy how many times it was performed. The ensemble name and concert date should be visible on each photocopy; you may include an indication of the concert location. Please be sure that your photocopies are highly legible. Please arrange programs in chronological order. Do not bind the programs in any way.

3. On each photocopy, please mark an "X" to the left of those works composed since 1984 and indicate the date of composition. Be sure to indicate commissioned works and local or world premieres.

4. Submit only programs involving serious music.

Please note: A copy of the cover letter should accompany each set of program materials. The letter and the program materials should be on 3-hole punched paper.

Award Categories

The categories for 2011 are as follows. Please note these carefully in order to apply in the correct category. The winners in each of these categories will receive an engraved plaque and $1,000.

  • Category #1: All Adult Choruses (professional, volunteer, symphony/opera)*
Note: Two awards will be given in this category.

  • Category #2: Children/Youth Choruses*

*Please note: Both categories are mutually exclusive. A chorus may not apply on behalf of its children's chorus in Category #2 and also on behalf of its adult community chorus in Category #1 in the same year. Similarly, a chorus that applies for the Adventurous Programming Award (in catgories #1 or #2) may not also apply for the Alice Parker Award in the same year. Choruses selected to receive the Adventurous Programming Award may not apply in future years for the Alice Parker Award, nor may choruses who have won the Alice Parker Award apply for the Adventurous Programming Award unless they can demonstrate that the chorus mission has changed.

All applications must be sent with a tracking number (USPS Delivery Confirmation will suffice), be postmarked by February 28, 2011, and sent to:
