Duties and responsibilities:

Overall Description: The Executive Director is the primary administrator of the Honors Choirs, functioning as the chief operating officer with the principal responsibility of assuring a stable environment in which day-to-day business operations are appropriately managed. The Executive Director has primary responsibility for Development activities, growing and sustaining the community support necessary to continue and expand the activities of the organization. The Executive Director works in vital partnership with the Artistic Director to provide the organizational support structure necessary to the fulfillment of the organization’s mission. The Executive Director is responsible for administrative staff leadership and the achievement of the strategic goals adopted by the Board of Directors, assuring the proper stewardship of Honors Choirs resources by conducting its business in a responsible and ethical manner. Extramural Functions: • Direct and actively participate in institutional development and fundraising efforts; devise and implement concrete strategies to pursue individual, corporate, and foundation funding sources. • Coordinate public relations and marketing activities; develop and maintain a comprehensive marketing plan. • In collaboration with the Artistic Director, take a leadership role in defining Honors Choirs educational and outreach programs, educating and engaging the community in the process; serve as a public representative of Honors Choirs to the community. Intramural Functions: • Oversee financial planning, financial systems, and financial decisions; work closely with Board and Artistic Director to develop annual plans and operational strategies that support the Strategic Plan of the organization. • Supervise human resources management by implementing systems and policies; work with Board to devise and maintain such policies. • Supervise operations of administrative staff in a manner that promotes both mutual respect and optimal productivity; maintains and fulfills task list of administrative assignments for self and other administrative staff. • Support the Board of Directors through attendance at meetings, development of agendas, preparation of reports, and recruitment of Board members; serve as the primary point of contact between the Board and Administrative Staff. • In collaboration with the Artistic Director, serves as a leader of people, engaging and motivating staff, Board, and volunteers in the pursuit of excellence.

Requirements: Requirements:

• Successful experience in non-profit or arts education fields, including marketing and management experience, and demonstrated leadership skills • Proven grant-writing skills • Strong communication, listening and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate the value of arts organizations to the community • Ability to understand the artistic aspects of the organization • Familiar with current trends in online marketing & communication • Experience in a similar Executive Director role is strongly preferred

Compensation: Total compensation in the range of $40-45K, which includes a benefits allowance, depending on qualif

Chorus/organization description: The mission of the Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota is to promote the highest standard of excellence in the preparation and performance of choral music, seeking to provide artistic challenge and growth opportunities for youth throughout the region and enjoyment for the community at large. Founded in 1992 as one high school choir, Honors Choirs is currently in its 16th year of providing a unique musical experience for children in grades 3 – 12, contributing in a significant way to the quality of life of these young people, their families, and the region. This season, over 240 auditioned singers from 28 different communities and 52 different schools from throughout southeastern Minnesota sing in one of four choirs, where they rehearse weekly throughout the academic year, preparing challenging repertoire, learning music history and theory, and practicing ear training techniques. The choirs regularly perform in local and national ACDA conventions and tour both nationally and internationally, and have won numerous awards.
