Choral-Orchestral Conducting Masterclass
January 13-16, 2012
Featuring The Mannes Orchestra and The Philadelphia Singers

For Professional Conductors Who Want to Improve Their Technique and Advance Their Careers

“Chorus America’s Masterclass was an absolutely integral part of my success in progressing from a student conductor to having a professional career.”
–Jason Harris, Director of Choral Ensembles, Oberlin College Conservatory of Music

Choral conductors seldom have the opportunity to work on their own craft and discuss their work with colleagues in a challenging and collaborative environment. Chorus America’s Conducting Masterclasses bring conductors, teachers, and resources together to create an enriching environment that is beneficial to Conducting Fellows on the podium and all participants who are observing.

The Conducting Masterclass is designed to give early career choral conductors the opportunity to work with master teachers and coaches/mentors on skills to help them meet challenges beyond their university training. Conducting Fellows are selected through a competitive application process; opportunities to participate as Conducting Associates and Auditors are available to conductors of all experience levels.

This year’s Choral-Orchestral Conducting Masterclass, presented in partnership with Mannes College New School of Music in New York City, will focus on major works in the choral-orchestral canon that choral conductors are likely to encounter in their careers. A world-class, accessible faculty offers both feedback on the podium and one-on-one individualized coaching. Members of The Mannes Orchestra, The Philadelphia Singers, and soloists provide a skilled and flexible instrument for an exceptional learning experience.
